 VETERANS’ MEMORIAL PARK

Veterans’ Memorial Park is a 100-acre plus facility located on “upper” Nova Scotia Hill Road.

The Avery W. Lamphier Athletic Complex  boasts 2 soccer fields, 1 High School Regulation Hardball field, 3 youth baseball fields, and 2 basketball courts.

Permits for athletic fields must be obtained through Watertown Recreation Department. Please call (860) 945-5246 for more information.

The park also has a playground, gazebo, comfort station, walking trails, Lattin’s Pond for fishing and hiking, horseshoe pits, bocce courts, picnic tables throughout the park, and an area that is designated for skateboarding.

There is a covered Pavilion with electrical outlets and picnic tables that can be reserved for birthday parties and other special events.

The Pavilion can be reserved for a fee beginning on March 1 for Residents and April 1 for Non-Residents. There is NO liquor allowed in the park.

Park Hours: Veterans’ Park is open from 6:00 a.m. until dusk.

 

RULES AND REGULATIONS AT VETERANS MEMORIAL PARK

¨ The Park has a speed limit of ten miles per hour.

¨ The roadway within the park is one way, beginning and ending at the flagpole.

¨ Pedestrian traffic ALWAYS has right of way.

¨ Absolutely no stakes, tents or other objects can be used on the field next to the Pavilion. There is an irrigation system and placing items in the ground on this field could cause great repercussions.

¨ Trash In – Trash Out ! What you bring in, bring it home with you.

DIRECTIONS TO VETERANS’ PARK:

FROM 84 EAST:

Take I-84 to Rte. 8 North follow to Exit 37. Take a left off of the exit and follow up the hill. At the second set of lights take a right onto Buckingham Street. Follow ½ mile to a blinking light and take a right onto Nova Scotia Hill Rd. Park is approximately ¼ mile on the right hand side.

FROM RTE 8 NORTH:

Take exit 37. At end of the ramp take a left. At the second set of lights take a right onto Buckingham Street. Follow ½ mile to a blinking light and take a right onto Nova Scotia Hill Rd. Park is approximately ¼ mile on the right hand side.

FROM RTE 8 SOUTH (THOMASTON EXIT):

Take RTE 6 West in Thomaston.  Follow Rte 6 to Rte 262.  Take a left at Buckingham Street (Westbury Corner Store is on your right).  Follow to blinking yellow light and take a left onto Nova Scotia Hill Rd.  The park is approximately 1/4 mile on the right.
