Zoning Board of Appeals
The Zoning Board of Appeals considers applications for variances from the Zoning Regulations, appeals from decisions of the Zoning Enforcement Officer.
The Zoning Board of Appeals has five regular members and three alternate members.
The Board makes an effort to ascertain the facts concerning each application before making a decision; therefore, field trips by Board members are scheduled to view the site prior to their decision. The board’s attitude toward the applicant is sympathetic and all decisions are made in the best interest of the Town. Each application in front of the Zoning Board of Appeals is reviewed on an individual basis and does not set a precedent for future applications.
The Board must judge that a hardship exists in granting a variance and this judgement must be made within the framework of the extensive legal precedents which have been established in court decisions.
The Zoning Board of Appeals meets at 7:30 P.M. the fourth Wednesday of each month except there is not a scheduled meeting in December. The Board meets in the Watertown High School Lecture Room, 324 French Street, Watertown, Ct unless otherwise noted.
