The Town of Watertown is accepting applications for Assessor.  Salary range is $81,256 - $104,574. Salary reduced by 10% for six months. Qualifications must include Certified Connecticut Municipal Assessor II designation with six years progressively responsible property appraisal experience, or three years of responsibility at or above the Assistant Assessor level, or a combination of experience and training which provides a demonstrated ability to perform the duties of the position.  Watertown Job Applications should be sent to the Town of Watertown, Town Manager’s Office, 61 Echo Lake Road, Watertown, CT 06795 by 4:00 P.M. $22.25 per hr to start/25 hrs week

After 6 mos. $24.73 per hr.


Works under the general supervision of the Building Official.  Assists with inspection of buildings during construction for compliance with State of Connecticut’s Building Code.  Examines plans, estimates values of construction cost, computes permit fees, issues permits and certificates of occupancy; enforces orders for corrective action to abate violations; reads, interprets and explains building codes, ordinances and regulations; records inspections, investigations and operation activities and writes reports; consults with Town officials, contractors and general public on construction matters; inspects demolition sites; performs other work as required.

REQUIREMENTS: Must have a thorough knowledge of accepted requirements of building construction and safety; considerable knowledge of standard tools and materials of building trade; considerable ability to read and interpret technical sketches and blueprints; good ability to read and interpret building codes, evaluate construction materials and workmanship at all stages of progress for compliance with building codes, state laws and Town ordinances; good ability to enforce standards with firmness and tact; good ability to communicate orally and in writing; considerable ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Town and State officials, contractors and the general public.  Must be a State of Connecticut Certified or Licensed Assistant Building Official or a Building Official under the provisions of Section 29-261 of the Connecticut General Statutes or be able to obtain such certification within six months of employment.  Must have a valid Connecticut driver’s license.

EXAMINATION: Written test and oral interview.
