Watertown Police Department

Temporary Part Time

$10.61/hr.-19.75 hours a week

 THE POSITION:      Responsible to the Police Chief for extensive typing tasks of a confidential nature.  The duties include typing general correspondence, preparing and typing various Police related forms, processing permit applications, and collecting parking ticket and other Police revenue.  May perform other related work as required.

REQUIREMENTS:  Must have good typing ability and knowledge of rules of punctuation, grammar, and spelling.  Must have considerable knowledge of standard office procedures and ability to set up and maintain filing systems.  Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, employees and supervisors.  It is desirable the applicant have computer data entry skills.  Must have a High School diploma and at least two (2) years of secretarial experience.

EXAMINATION:     Typing test and oral interview.

TOWN ENGINEER

FULL TIME

SALARY RANGE $72,525 - $93,336

THE POSITION

Works under the administrative direction of the Director of Public Works; provides immediate supervision to the Assistant to the Town Engineer and the Engineering Division Staff.  Plans, directs, supervises and evaluates the work of the Engineering Division, including capital improvements and routine construction and maintenance programs.  Writes construction contracts, bid specifications and payment requisitions; manages administration of construction and other contracts.  Investigates and answers complaints from public; writes engineering and progress reports; prepares annual budget for division; controls division expenditures; advises Boards and Commissions on technical matters and reviews and reports on the engineering aspect of applications before them.  Performs related work as required.

REQUIREMENTS

Must be a graduate from a recognized college or university with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering plus eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in municipal public works, including three (3) years in a supervisory capacity; OR any combination of training and experience, including three (3) years in a supervisory capacity, which provides a demonstrated ability to perform the duties of the position.  Must have thorough knowledge of civil engineering and municipal public works principles and practices, especially of drainage and roadway design.  Must have considerable knowledge of public works construction methods; public administration and personnel management principles and practices; and good skill in engineering design.  Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Town and State officials and general public.  Must be a State of CT Professional Engineer or become one within one (1) year.  Land surveying license desirable, but not required.  Must have a valid CT driver’s license or be able to obtain one within five (5) days.

MECHANIC

CRESTBROOK PARK

START RATE $27.81/HR.

THE POSITION:      Performs minor and major repairs on motorized and other equipment, including, but not limited to trucks, loaders, tractor, pumps, street sweepers, grader, snow plows, compressors, etc.  Test drives vehicles as necessary and may remove equipment from operation with approval of supervisors.  May be required to drive vehicles in extreme situations. 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:  Under general supervision of the General Foreman who may assign work and reviews work for adequacy, competency and completeness.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:    Considerable knowledge of the construction, rebuilding and repair of all components of equipment such as included above.  Ability and familiarity in the use of tools and testing equipment necessary to maintain such equipment.  Ability to follow written and oral instructions.                                                                                                                            

Not less than five (5) years experience in the repair and maintenance of large trucks (2 Ton and up) and/or loaders, graders, tractors, etc. or in lieu thereof an equivalent combination in experience and training.                                                                           

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Considerable physical strength and above average dexterity.
