OCTOBER
Stone Wall Lecture and Hike: Saturday October 20, 12:00 P.M. at Walker Hall, 50 DeForest Street. This event is being co-sponsored by the Watertown Historical Society and the Watertown Land Trust. Dr. Robert Thorson, an author and geology professor at the University of Connecticut, will give a lecture and slide presentation on stone walls. Dr. Thorson is the author of three books, Stone by Stone: The Magnificent History in New England's Stone Walls; Exploring Stone Walls: A Field Guide to New England's Stone Walls; and Stone Wall Secrets. After Dr. Thorson's lecture we will drive to the Watertown Land Trust's newly acquired Osuch Farm property on Skilton Road in Watertown (5 minute drive) and Dr. Thorson will lead a short hike of the property identifying stone features along the way. Signed copies of Dr. Thorson's three books will for sale after the lecture. Bring a lunch to the lecture, beverages and dessert will be provided. This program is free and open to the public.
NOVEMBER
Business Meeting: Thursday November 15th, 7:00 P.M. at Walker Hall, 50 DeForest Street. Reports will be presented and placed on file.
Digitization Program: Saturday November 17th, 12:00 P.M. at Walker Hall, 50 DeForest Street. Marty Tannenbaum of Innovative Document Imaging in New Jersey will present a PowerPoint presentation and lecture on the digitization of old documents and pictures. Marty digitized our newspaper collection, numbering hundreds of issues of the Town Times, Watertown News, Watertown Journal, Post Boy, and the Watertown Argus. He will explain this exciting new digitization technology and the possibilities for conducting research with our digitized newspaper collection. This program is free and open to the public.
DECEMBER
Board Meeting: Thursday, December 20, 7:00 P.M. at Walker Hall, 50 DeForest Street. Reports will be presented and plans will be discussed for the Spring. A holiday party with refreshments will follow the Board Meeting. Open to the public.
