The legal voters = of the Town of Watertown and those entitled to vote in Town Meetings are hereby WA= RNED AND NOTIFIED of a Special Town Meeting to be held on Monday, June 18, 2007 = at 7:00 p.m. at the Polk School Library, 437 Buckingham Street, Oakville, CT to consider an appropriation in the amount of $125,825 from the interest earne= d in the Fire House Renovation Project Capital Fund to the Fire House Renovation Project for additional items and services to complete the project.

I hereby certify that on June 8, 2007, I left a duplicate copy of the attached WARNING AND NOTICE of a Special Town Meeting of the Town of Watertown, Connecticut, to be held on June 18, 2007 with Virginia Russo, Assistant Town Clerk.
I further certify that I caused a copy of said Warning and Notice to be publi= shed in the REPUBLICAN AMERICAN Newspaper on June 8, 2007, which has a substanti= al circulation in said Town.
I further certify that on June 8, 2007, I caused to be set upon the signpost nearest the office of the Town Clerk and all other places with signposts designated by the Town, a written copy of said Warning and Notice signed by= me as Town Manager.
I further certify that all the above acts were done at least five (5) days be= fore the holding of the Special Town Meeting on June 18, 2007.

&= nbsp; &nbs= p; Chief Black: We are here tonigh= t to vote as citizens of our Town on whether or not we want to appropriate more funds for use by us, your volunteer firefighters. Our members, who are also taxpayer= s, have unanimously voted to support this request and we all feel that it is an appropriate way to spend our Town's funds. We understand that the renovations of our fire headquarters is expensive and we very much appreciate the support the Town has shown us through our previous approvals of this project. We are asking your continued support as we ask for the money to fund these additional request. I = want to make sure that it is very clear that this money is for additional items = not included in the renovation project. The project itself is 98% complete and it is most definitely under budget. We are not asking for= these funds to pay for the original project.&nbs= p; We are asking to enhance the project by funding the purchase of materials to improve the final renovations and most importantly improve the safety of our members and the operation of our department. It is coincidental that this week = is the third international firefighters standout, a time when all around the world, fire departments are taking the time to look at how they respond, and how we may improve and make safer our response to calls for assistance.

of the items we wish to purchase with these funds are items that will do ju=
st
that, by either directly or indirectly improving our member's safety when t=
hey
respond. Whether it be a more
reliable breathing air compressor system to fill our SCVA bottles, or guard
rails installed to properly protect our parking lots, so our people may saf=
ely
respond. New exercise equipme=
nt
improves our member's health which in turn improves their ability to be saf=
e at
emergencies. And even additio=
nal
kitchen equipment helps to feed our members during extended crisis' which h=
elps
them to be ready to assist you, their fellow residents of our Town. The bottom line is this, we, your
volunteer firefighters, are asking for some help. As volunteers we provide a potenti=
ally
expensive and complex service that ultimately costs the Town very little.
= ; &n= bsp; Once in awhile we do ask for your help and this is one of those few times. We are your volunteers, and we ask= you now for your support. Our renovations are a success. Pl= ease vote yes and give us an opportunity to make them even better. Thank you.
