NOTICE OF REFERENDUM
TOWN OF <= st1:City w:st=3D"on">WATERTOWN
JUNE 5, 2007

A referendum of electors = of the Town of Watertown will be held on Tuesday,
June 5, 2007, between the hours of 6:00 A.M. and 8:00 P.M. pursuant to Sect= ion 709 of the Town Charter to vote for approval or disapproval of ordinances adopted by the Town Council on April 16, 2007 and entitled “An Ordina= nce Appropriating $56,157,000 For Renovation Of And Additions To Watertown High School To Provide An Approximately 1,023 Student Capacity School Serving Gr= ades 9 Through 12, And Authorizing The Issue Of Bonds Or Notes And Temporary Not= es To Finance Such Portion Of Said Appropriation As Is Not Defrayed From Grant= s”, “An Ordinance Appropriating $15,859,000 For Renovation Of And Additio= ns To Judson Elementary School To Provide An Approximately 450 Student Capacity School Serving Grades 3 Through 5, And Authorizing The Issue Of Bonds Or No= tes And Temporary Notes To Finance Such Portion Of Said Appropriation As Is Not Defrayed From Grants” and “An Ordinance Appropriating $12,517,0= 00 For Renovation Of And Additions To Polk Elementary School To Provide An Approximately 370 Student Capacity School Serving Grades 3 Through 5, And Authorizing The Issue Of Bonds Or Notes And Temporary Notes To Finance Such Portion Of Said Appropriation As Is Not Defrayed From Grants”.   The full texts of the ordina= nces were published in the Town Times on April 26, 2007, and are on file in the office of the Town Clerk and available for public inspection during normal business hours. 

Voting will be at the fol= lowing polling places:

Voting Di= strict 68-01 - Heminway Park School, Heminway Park Road, Watertown, CT

Voting Di= strict 68-02 - Judson School, <= st1:Street w:st=3D"on">Hamilton Lane, Watertown, CT

Voting Di= stricts 68-03 and 68-04 - Polk School, Buckingham Street, Oakville, CT

(The temporary voting location for the Swift Voting District shall be Polk School due to construction activities.)

 

Absentee ballots may be obtained at the Town Clerk’s office.

The ordinances will be pl= aced on the voting machines under the following headings, respectively:

“SHALL THE TOWN OF WATERTOWN APPROPRIATE $56,157,000 FOR RENOVATION OF AND ADDITIONS TO WATERTOWN HIGH SCHOO= L TO PROVIDE AN APPROXIMATELY 1,023 STUDENT CAPACITY SCHOOL SERVING GRADES 9 THROUGH 12, AND AUTHORIZE= THE ISSUE OF BONDS OR NOTES TO FINANCE SUCH PORTION OF SAID APPROPRIATION AS IS= NOT DEFRAYED FROM GRANTS?”

“SHALL THE TOWN OF WATERTOWN APPROPRIATE $15,859,000 FOR RENOVATION OF AND ADDITIONS TO JUDSON ELEMENTARY SC= HOOL TO PROVIDE AN APPROXIMATELY 450 STUDENT CAPACITY SCHOOL SERVING GRADES 3 THROUGH 5, AND AUTHORIZE = THE ISSUE OF BONDS OR NOTES TO FINANCE SUCH PORTION OF SAID APPROPRIATION AS IS= NOT DEFRAYED FROM GRANTS?”

 “SHALL THE TOWN O= F WATERTOWN APPROPRIATE $12,517,000 FOR RENOVATION OF = AND ADDITIONS TO POLK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TO PROVIDE AN APPROXIMATELY 3= 70 STUDENT CAPACITY SCHOOL SERVING GRADES 3 THROUGH 5, AND AUTHORIZE = THE ISSUE OF BONDS OR NOTES TO FINANCE SUCH PORTION OF SAID APPROPRIATION AS IS= NOT DEFRAYED FROM GRANTS?”

Electors approving an ord= inance will vote “Yes” and those opposing the ordinance will vote “No”.

I HEREBY CERTIFY that on = May 3, 2007, I left a duplicate of the attached warning and notice of a referendum= of the Town of Watertown, Connecticut, with Virginia V. Russo, its Assistant T= own Clerk.

I FURTHER CERTIFY that I = caused a copy of said warning and notice to be published in        =                      =             &nb= sp;            =             &nb= sp;            =         the Town Times, a newspaper having a general and substantial circulation in said Town, on May 3, 2007.

I FURTHER CERTIFY that on=   May 3, 2007, I caused to be set up= on the signpost or other exterior place nearest the office of the Town Clerk and at all other places and signposts designated by the Town a written copy of said warning and notice signed by the Assistant Town Clerk.

I FURTHER CERTIFY that al= l of the above acts were done at least thirty days before the holding of said refere= ndum on June 5, 2007.
