The legal voters = of the Town of Watertown and those entitled to vote in Town Meetings are hereby WA= RNED AND NOTIFIED of a Special Town Meeting to be held on Wednesday, May 26, 200= 4 at 7:00 p.m. at the Polk School Library, 437 Buckingham Street, Oakville, Connecticut to consider an appropriation in the amount of $53,000 from the General Fund for the Watertown High School Track Renovation Project.

I further certify that on May 19, 2004 I caused a copy of said Warning and Notice to be published= in the WATERBURY REPUBLICAN Newspaper, which has a substantial circulation in = said Town.

I further certify that on May 19, 2004, I caused to be set upon the signpost nearest the office of the Town Clerk and all other places with signposts designated by the Town, a written copy of said Warning and Notice signed by me as Town Manager.

Todd LoFrese, Director of Operati= on, Watertown Board of Education: In November of 2003, $815,000 was approved to be spent on an 8 lane track, to include a new irrigation system with a natural grass playing area. Mather Construction won the bid. The= bid came in over the cost estimate due to higher steel prices and general increases. When adding the architectural fees the cost pushed it over the allotted funding. The low bid= was $772,000

Ms.= Diane Verri= er, 201 Mt. Vernon Avenue stated that she was annoyed that the Council was coming and asking the peop= le for additional money. She sta= ted that she has gone without because prices have increased and can no longer do things that she would do and said the Council should do the same. They should stay within their budg= et. Many projects have gone over and s= he did not want to see another project with the same issue of more money needed.

Mr.= Claude Miserez, 45 Lockwood Drive questioned how the project can go through without the extras and how = can we do the project within the budget. He questioned the need for the 8 land track vs. a 6

Mr.= LoFrese suggested that Ms. June Legge, Director of Athletics might be able to answer any questions on the reason f= or a 8 lane vs. 6 lane track.

Ms.= June Legge stated that the tra= ck teams have been on the road since 12:30 this afternoon and would have been here.&n= bsp; They are looking to have the best around. In order to have an NVL state trac= k meet the 8 lanes are required.

Ms.= Meredith Ro= bson, Town Manager said there are inherent risks associated with any project when going to bid. The length of t= ime between when projects are fir= st initiated and when final monies are put in= place may increase costs. It is difficult to do to come up with an estimate trying to keep within a budget.&n= bsp; Large measures are taken to try so very hard to keep costs as low as possible.

Mr.= Paul Rinald= i suggested that a motion be made to technically continue with the discussion= .

Mr.= Kane entertained a motion.

MOTION: = ; (Mr. Raymond Hebert, sec. Mr. Lee Archer) to approve the appropriation from the General Fund in the amount of $53,000 for the Watert= own High School Track Renovation Project.

Discussion: &= nbsp; None

Mr. Kane called for a vote on the motion.

MOTION PASSED by the majority of those voting.
