FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

12/5/23 UPDATE: PAVING FOR HUNGERFORD ROAD TO BEGIN ON 12/6/23.

The Town of Watertown Department of Public Works wishes to report the following updates regarding our Pavement Management Program 2023.

Guernseytown Road

We will be closing Guernseytown road at 9:00AM on Wednesday, December 6 and Thursday December 7 at 9:00AM for water main work and to complete the connections to Watertown Golf Club's maintenance building.  Plus, the line for the Watertown Fire District to flush the new main as needed. This work requires us to trench across the road and prohibits access until complete.  We will make every attempt to have at least one lane open at 2:00 for buses and emergency vehicles only.  The road will reopen each day 100% by 3:30PM.

Middlebury Road

Drainage work with new replacement catch basins, select culvert pipes replaced and new catch basins have been installed and patched with asphalt for this coming winter.  Full depth reconstruction and pavement will commence in the Spring of 2024.

Hungerford Road

Watermain on Frederick St has been installed and new water services connected to the residents.   Storm water drainage work has been completed on Hungerford Rd and Falls Ave.  Grading and road regrading/reconstruction have been completed on Hungerford Rd, Frederick St and Woodlawn Ave.  Base paving will start on Tuesday December 5th, 2023.  Final surface coat of pavement will commence in the Spring of 2024.

Woolson St Bridge

Eversource Gas has completed the reconnection of the natural gas main across the Woolson St Bridge project.  The reconnection of this portion of gas line will provide better capacity and redundancy for gas customers in this area for the winter heating season.  Bridge abutments have been backfilled and compacted.  The top deck of the bridge has been sealed with waterproofing material.  Base paving will start on Wednesday December 6th, 2023.  Bridge will be reopened and Hopkins Road will be reverted back to a two-way road by the end of December 2023.  Final surface coat of pavement, sidewalk and landscaping will be done in the April/May 2024 time period.  Anticipating bridge will be shut down for a one-month period with Hopkins reaming open as a two-way road.

Davis St, Platt Rd and Riverside St

Milling, Paving and Safety Stripping has been completed on these three roads.

The Department would like to thank resident for their support through a very challenging construction season due to the amount and intensity of rain events received during the Summer of 2023.   Further updates will be provided as available.
