Sec. 26-2. - Police protection at certain construction sites.
(a) The purpose of this section is to provide for the requirement of police protection at certain construction sites in order to ensure public safety in work areas involving excavation or obstruction of a public highway.
(b) Requirements: For any of the following described activities resulting in blockage, fully or partially, of public highways or where a public highway is being excavated or obstructed, sworn personnel shall be hired by the person and/or entity causing such excavation or obstruction through the town in order to ensure public safety in the area of work being performed; provided, however, the chief of police shall designate a specific zone in the town wherein it will be mandatory that such police protection be secured. For areas of the town which lie outside the zone the determination for the activities described in this section shall be decided on a case-by-case basis by the chief of police.
- Construction/excavation permits.
- Power line installation/repair.
- Telephone line installation/repair.
- Cable television installation/repair.
- Any activity in which a public highway is being excavated or obstructed.
