Conservation Commission/Inland Wetland Agency
The Watertown Conservation Commission/Inland Wetland Agency (CCIWA) seeks to maintain the integrity of the Town’s watercourses, inland wetlands and aquifers by a process of stringent reviews and permitting.
The CCIWA has seven regular members and three alternate members.
The Commission receives and acts on applications or proposals to conduct activities in an inland wetland/watercourse or adjacent to an inland/wetland watercourse. Following a thorough evaluation and review, applications are given conditional approvals and denials.
It is important that landowners understand the dynamics of inland wetlands as they are complex and that some cures for localized situations can cause system-wide problems.
The Conservation Commission/Inland Wetland Agency will continue to render its decision on the basis of not prohibiting development but on controlling and regulating development with the least amount of impact on the Town’s inland wetlands and watercourses.
