General Information
The Tax Collector is responsible for collecting real estate, personal property and motor vehicle taxes. Our goal is to help maintain the fiscal health of the Town of Watertown by ensuring timely collections through proper implementation of CT statutes and assisting the public in understanding the taxation process with regard to these laws.
- Real Estate taxes are due in the months of July and January at a mill rate of 30.04.
- Personal Property taxes are due in the month of July at a mill rate of 30.04.
- Motor Vehicle taxes are due in the month of July at a mill rate of 30.04.
- Supplemental Motor Vehicle taxes are due in the month of January at a mill rate of 30.04.
If a motor vehicle was registered after October 1st, a bill will be generated on the motor vehicle supplemental list due January 1.
If you own property in town, it is your responsibility to get your tax bill. If a financial institution holds escrow for your taxes they should have requested your bill directly from us but in the event that you receive it, please contact that institution with the information. If your property has been sold and you received a bill, please forward the bill to the new owner or contact the tax office. Address changes regarding your real estate bill should be directed to the Assessor’s office on their page. Questions involving assessments, exemptions, or elderly benefits should also be directed to the Assessor’s office.
Motor vehicle Supplement: Due January 1. February 1st is the last day to pay without penalty unless it falls on the weekend. Bill mailed last week of December.
